Mission Accomplished!

So today is a big day.  I have done a lot of writing in the past two years, but I have finally done something I feel is special.  Today I finished my first short story (novelette to be correct) that I plan to sell.  Hopefully people will be interested in buying it.

Though, much like the picture to the right, my mission isn’t truly done yet.  I have only finished my first draft.  This story is based on an idea I had literally years ago when I was still working at Gamestop.  I actually started writing it last year, but frankly just couldn’t get myself to do it.  That being the case, the first 1/4 of the story is likely a mashed up mess of ideas and writing styles that are spread out over months.  Since I first started the story, I have grown leaps and bounds as a writer, so I am expecting to do a lot of rewriting.  Even though there will be a lot of revisions, clarifying of ideas and general improving, I still have the hard part done.  I have a story and it’s more or less written out.

In the end, I was pretty close to my 10,000 word estimate on length.  The final count on this draft was 10,395.  I think my time grinding articles for writing agency sharpened my ability to estimate word counts.  Though more realistically I just got lucky…

On a more personal note, I’m excited by the shear volume of socializing I have planned for next week.  Monday I have a friend coming in from out of town.  We’re going to go see a movie or two and maybe have a nice meal.  Planning on having fun.  Then on Saturday I have plans to watch the USA vs. England World Cup match.  This has me doubly excited since I will be catching up with some long estranged friends AND watching World Cup soccer.  I have been ready for the World Cup to start for awhile now…  Lastly, I will be going back to Ryan’s to record a new episode of KBP after taking a week off.  Not to worry, there will still be an episode this weekend, it’s just composed of content that we recorded last week with Ed from Voice of the Republic.  It was a lot of fun recording with him.  Hopefully I’ll get to work more with him in the future.

Anyways, that’s it for now.  Since I got my 1st draft done a full day early, I am looking forward to taking it easy tomorrow.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!
