Steam Summer Sale: Carl’s Picks of the Day 7-16

There were some great deals over the weekend, but today is another day! The sale has been great so far. I have seen a lot of friends who rarely log onto Steam spending a bunch of time logged on to the service. I think we’re on the cusp of a new golden era of PC gaming, but that’s a topic for another day…

Lets just get to the topic on hand: Steam deals!

First off, there is a classic Star Wars game on sale today! Bioware’s original Knights of the Old Republic really put the developer on the map. At the time they were mostly known for their work with the Dungeons and Dragons franchise, KotoR opened up the world of traditional western RPGs to console gamers when it was released on the original Xbox. Sure the game is a little dated, but quality never gets old. You can pick up this iconic title for a mere $2.49 today.

The next pick is the game franchise Fear. First person shooter meets survival horror in this beloved series. You can either pick up the entire franchise for $9.99 (that’s 82% off retail price) or you can pick and choose which ones you want. Either way, it’s a great value. Warning!!! This is a flash deal, which means it will be over in the next 10 hours! So hurry up, or you can miss out on this deal!

My last pick for today is Dear Esther. I have never played it, but have only heard good things about it. Moody and dark, it’s apparently a mystery that will keep you guessing and exploring. I like games that push the envelope of storytelling and game design. I especially love when a game transcends the typical “Hero A kills Villain X” stuff. It’s a little bit of a risk, but if you like games that make you think, $2.49 seems a small price to pay for something that could potential be a mind blowing experience.

So that’s my picks for today. Stay tuned, if I see any more insane community voting or flash deals, I will post them here. Check back tomorrow as I share my picks on how to best spend your money over this crazy event!
