Tron Uprising Set to Hit the Grid in 2012

It was announced that a new animated series set in the Tron universe is set to premiere on Disney XD next summer. Taking place between Tron and Tron Legacy, the new series will feature the likes of Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens and Lance Henriksen. I think most fans of the franchise will also agree it’s great news to hear that Bruce Boxleitner will be reprising his role as Tron. No word on any involvement by Jeff Bridges though. It’s currently scheduled for 10 episodes and a sneak peak will be featured on the upcoming Tron Legacy home release… or you can just catch the trailer below.

I’m really excited for this, as I feel that TRON Legacy should have been a bigger deal in theaters. Maybe that will change on DVD, but we’ll see. This cartoon looks great so far, I like the style – not too CG, and they don’t look like cold puppets.

I can’t help but compare this to Clone Wars, which, as a Star Wars fan, brought me nothing but disappointment. It will be really interesting to compare them when it comes out, because of the similarities.

Both are 80s properties brought back to life for a new generation of moviegoers, ans for veteran fans. Both animated series are made to fit in between movies, and tell the tale of familiar characters even when we know that will happen to some of them. I hope that TRON will succeed in the writing of strong characters and situations where Clone Wars relied on nostalgia, cliche, and other successful properties to form a ramshackle storyline.

Yeah, if this is a fair representation of the artwork I think it looks pretty cool. I just hope the story is consistent and at least decent. The manic quality of Clone Wars really turned me off to the show as a whole.

Say something... I dare you.
